If you're flying into Florida to explore Lakewood Ranch, choosing the right place to stay can make a huge difference in your home search.

One of the biggest mistakes I see buyers make is booking a hotel simply because it's close to the airport or because they found a good deal online. Then they spend half their vacation driving back and forth between neighborhoods instead of actually experiencing what living here feels like.

First Things First: Don't Stay on the Beach

I know...

You're coming to Florida.

You want palm trees, white sand beaches, and ocean views.

While I absolutely recommend spending an extra day enjoying our beaches after your home tour, I don't recommend staying on the islands during your relocation trip.

From places like Siesta Key, Lido Key, or Anna Maria Island, you're looking at a 30-60 minute drive (sometimes longer during season) every time you head back to Lakewood Ranch.

That time adds up quickly, especially when we're touring multiple neighborhoods over several days.

Instead, stay close to where you'll actually be spending most of your time.

My Favorite Hotels Near Lakewood Ranch

1. Hyatt Place Sarasota/Lakewood Ranch

This is usually my first recommendation.

Why?

• Right in the middle of everything

• Minutes from most Lakewood Ranch neighborhoods

• Large rooms

• Free breakfast

• Plenty of restaurants nearby

• Easy access to shopping

It's especially convenient if we're planning two or three full days of home tours.

2. Homewood Suites by Hilton Sarasota Lakewood Ranch

Perfect for families.

If you're relocating with kids, having:

• A full kitchen

• Separate living area

• More space to spread out

makes a huge difference after long days of touring homes.

3. Courtyard by Marriott Sarasota at University Town Center

Great if you like being close to restaurants and shopping.

You're only minutes from:

• University Town Center

• Dozens of restaurants

• Coffee shops

• Grocery stores

It's also a very convenient drive into Lakewood Ranch.

4. EVEN Hotel Sarasota-Lakewood Ranch

If staying active while traveling is important to you, this is another great option.

It offers modern rooms and is close to many of the communities buyers typically explore.

Should You Stay Inside Lakewood Ranch?

Absolutely—if you can.

If you're considering moving here, nothing beats waking up inside the community you'll potentially call home.

You'll notice things you simply can't experience during a quick afternoon showing:

• Morning traffic

• Walking paths

• People biking

• Golf carts cruising around

• Neighborhood activity

• How busy restaurants are in the evenings

Those little details often end up helping buyers narrow down their favorite neighborhoods.

If You're Looking at Waterside

If your search is focused on the Waterside villages, I'd recommend staying on the Sarasota side rather than farther north.

You'll spend more time exploring neighborhoods like:

• Waterside

• LakeHouse Cove

• Wild Blue

• Shellstone

• Windward

Staying nearby means less driving and more time experiencing the lifestyle.

If You're Looking at the Northeast Side

Buyers interested in communities like:

• Azario

• Lakewood National

• Lorraine Lakes

• Star Farms

• Sapphire Point

will appreciate staying near the eastern side of the Ranch to cut down on drive time.

Should You Rent an Airbnb Instead?

Unlike many Florida vacation destinations, Lakewood Ranch was designed as a residential community—not a tourist destination. Many neighborhoods have HOA rules that restrict short-term vacation rentals, helping preserve the quiet, neighborly atmosphere that makes people fall in love with living here in the first place. As a result, nightly Airbnb options are more limited, and many communities require minimum rental terms.

If you're thinking about relocating, I actually recommend something even better: stay for a month instead of a weekend. Communities like Lakewood National and Azario often have beautifully furnished monthly rentals available, giving you the chance to experience everyday life in Lakewood Ranch—not just a quick vacation. You'll have time to explore different neighborhoods, visit restaurants, play golf, walk the trails, and decide if this lifestyle truly feels like home before making one of the biggest investments of your life. Monthly rentals are commonly available in these communities and can be a great way to "test drive" the Lakewood Ranch lifestyle.

My Biggest Tip

Don't try to see every neighborhood in one weekend.

Lakewood Ranch is enormous.

There are dozens of neighborhoods, each with its own personality, amenities, architecture, HOA rules, and price points.

Instead, narrow your search based on what's most important to you:

• Golf?

• New construction?

• Waterfront views?

• Families with young kids?

• Walkability?

• 55+ living?

• Luxury?

• Maintenance-free?
